(Into The Carpathian Wild: Season 1: Summer) Divoká příroda European wildlife is threatened like never before, but in the Carpathian Mountains it has found its last great refuge. Home to Europes most extensive primeval forests and the continents largest populations of bears, wolves and lynx, the Carpathians are a stronghold of biodiversity. Follow the lives of this remarkable wildlife over the course of a year to reveal how each species is connected to the wider ecosystem. Together, they sustain a landscape that protects biodiversity, stores carbon and safeguards life-giving water, making the Carpathians one of Europes most vital natural treasures. Summer grants abundance, but in the race to make the most of a brief window of warmth, it also brings competition, aggression and danger. High up on the mountain meadows, Alpine marmots fight for the best hideouts in which to raise young, but can they escape hungry bears? The Carpathian bear cubs are growing fast but are at risk of being attacked by competitive adult males. Can their mothers clever strategies protect them? Herds of bison thunder through the ancient woodlands in search of food and water. Theyre a triumph of rewilding because their trampling boosts life throughout the forest, like the insects that multiply in the billions. These bugs must then find food and turn to herds of red deer. Plagued by biting insects, the deer run up the mountains to escape, only to risk falling prey to rare wild cats. MN 7 (United Kingdom)
