(North Korea from the Inside with Michael Palin: Season 1: Part 2) History The historic meeting between North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-In generated front page headlines across the globe making it a unique time to visit the Hermit Kingdom. As news filtered through the country Michael and the crew captured these historic days with the ordinary people of this secretive and little understood country. Michael visited sites and locations rarely, if ever, explored in his journey across the country, while spending time with citizens from all walks of life and witnessing the countrys extraordinary annual May Day celebrations. Michael Palin embarks on the second part of his journey across one of the most secretive states in the world, North Korea. As he leaves Pyongyang, Michael drives under the massive Arch of Reunification, which symbolises the countrys desire for North and South Korea to be brought together. After travelling to the border with South Korea, Michael meets an officer from the North Korean Peoples Army and is shown around the Joint Security Area. Michael talks to the officer about the countrys nuclear weapons and its changing relationship with America. The next day, Michael travels to the east coast of the country and the seaside town of Wonsan, where he sees a massive tourist resort being constructed, complete with brand new airport. North Korea is notorious for food shortages and Michael spends a day on a local farm with a farmer and her family. The next day, Michael and the guides travel to the beautiful Mount Kumgang region and they have an open and honest chat about the differences between their two countries. After this, Michael boards a plane to fly to the sacred Mount Paektu in the far north of the country. Finally, he returns to Pyongyang and looks back on his time in North Korea.
