Beyond New England, witch trials were a staple globally during the 16th and 17th centuries, reaching Germany, Scotland, England, Sweden and Ireland. The worst of the trials often followed a similar pattern of suspicion and accusations, leading to nearly 60 thousand wrongful executions. This three-part series brings to life the world of so-called witches and witch hunters, introducing the perpetrators and victims through recreations and testimony from witchcraft experts and detailing the events surrounding some of the worlds most infamous witch trials in the U.S. and Europe. The witch trials have crossed the Atlantic Ocean and over to the New World. In 1662, the most famous of all the witch trials took place in Salem. The young colony faces mass hysteria as the supposed bewitchment of girls from the village leads to accusations of witchcraft, death and destruction on a petrifying scale. Then back in Europe, 18th-century Ireland experiences one of the most frightening stories of all the witch trials.
