In the final chapter of WWII, bringing the fight to Hitlers doorstep will be no easy task. Nazi fanatics and diehards fight back ferociously for survival, across the strongholds of occupied Europe — in France, Belgium, Italy, and into Germany itself. These are the wars final, desperate battles, told at ground level through the soldiers who lived them: from the legendary Canadian regiment The Black Watch holding the line at Verrières Ridge, to elite officers of Britains Special Boat Service (SBS) carrying out an ambush in Northern Italy. In August 1944, as Allied forces push east from Normandy, the British 43rd Wessex Division reaches the Seine at Vernon, only to face fierce German resistance. With their storm boats stuck, bridges destroyed, and no tank support in sight, Allied troops must fight to secure a fragile foothold on the far bank, hoping to hold off the enemy until a vehicle crossing can be built. On the heights above the Seine, a British major spots a critical weakness in the line and moves to secure an undefended ridge, enduring wave after wave of German counterattacks.
