(Superskilled with Eva Zu Beck: Season 1: Superskilled with Eva Zu Beck: Hunting and Gathering with the Hadza) Travel Adventurer and YouTuber Eva zu Beck travels to some of the world’s most remote locations in search of people who possess extraordinary skills that push the limits of the human mind and body. Venturing into Mexico’s Copper Canyon, she learns how the Rarámuri have mastered running ultramarathons on treacherous terrain. She attempts to hunt, forage and survive like the Hadzabe community in Tanzania—some of the last hunter-gatherer communities on Earth. Deep in the Brazilian Amazon, members of the Matis Indigenous community teach her how they navigate the dense forest, with no help from maps or GPS. And the porters of Mount Kilimanjaro teach Eva the secrets of carrying heavy gear up the tallest mountain in Africa. It is believed the Hadza people have lived in Tanzania’s Great Rift Valley for tens of thousands of years, and they’ve maintained their hunter-gatherer way of life for just as long. Adventurer and YouTuber Eva zu Beck visits the Hadza and attempts to learn their superskills. First, she hunts with the men using homemade bows and arrows. Then she forages with the women, collecting baobab fruit and digging for tubers using sticks as shovels. On her final day at the Hadza camp, Eva must combine what she’s learned to subsist for a full 24 hours on her own in the Tanzanian bush. But going it alone is much harder than she anticipates, and Eva realizes that for the Hazda, survival isn’t meant to be a solitary endeavor. MN 12 (United States)
