Venturing into Mexico’s Copper Canyon, she learns how the Rarámuri have mastered running ultramarathons on treacherous terrain. She attempts to hunt, forage and survive like the Hadzabe community in Tanzania—some of the last hunter-gatherer communities on Earth. Deep in the Brazilian Amazon, members of the Matis Indigenous community teach her how they navigate the dense forest, with no help from maps or GPS. And the porters of Mount Kilimanjaro teach Eva the secrets of carrying heavy gear up the tallest mountain in Africa. Imagine getting lost in the Amazon rainforest … on purpose. Adventurer and YouTuber Eva zu Beck travels to Brazil to learn the secrets of wayfinding from the Indigenous Matis community, who have honed age-old techniques to navigate through the jungle without using maps or modern technology. In order to prepare for her challenge, Eva endures a series of painful tribal rituals that are designed to test her mettle and heighten her senses. Then, she is brought deep into the jungle and schooled on the ways of branch breaking, tree climbing and sound signaling before being left alone by her guides.
