On August 12, 1985, Japan Airlines 123 was scheduled to carry 524 passengers from Tokyo to Osaka. But just 12 minutes into the flight, the Boeing 747 suffered a fatal decompression that ripped off most of the tail. With a total loss of hydraulics, the crew was unable to control the aircraft.
