Air Crash Investigation uncovers the truth behind the most legendary aviation disasters, and every episode features eyewitness accounts, captivating reenactments, state-of-the-art CGI, and interviews with the investigators who ultimately determined what went wrong. Unraveling the complex mystery is a painstaking process that takes months—and sometimes years—of detective work. The twisted wreckage at the crash site tells part of the story; investigators can use it to learn about the final seconds of a flight and rule out mechanical failures. The flight data and cockpit voice recorders are critical, but they don’t always reveal what happened. It almost always takes a tragic combination of factors to bring down an airplane. An out-of-control turboprop breaks apart while trying to land at Düsseldorf airport, instantly killing everyone on board. German investigators locate every piece of the wreckage within the huge crash site, then painstakingly reconstruct the entire plane in order to determine what went wrong on board Nuremberg Flight 108. Investigators soon uncover a piece of the wreckage with telltale signs of a lightning strike. And as they dig deeper, find conclusive evidence that the powerful jolt jumped from the fuselage to the electrical system, causing a total power failure that disabled critical instruments and plunged the cockpit into darkness. Faced with a one-in-a-million disaster scenario no one saw coming, the disoriented crew lost control of their aircraft.
