(Air Crash Investigation: Season 25: Crash Landing) Věda Every time a plane crashes, the world takes notice. And so do the experts whose job it is to figure out what happened. Air Crash Investigation uncovers the truth behind the most legendary aviation disasters, and every episode features eyewitness accounts, captivating reenactments, state-of-the-art CGI, and interviews with the investigators who ultimately determined what went wrong. Unraveling the complex mystery is a painstaking process that takes months—and sometimes years—of detective work. The twisted wreckage at the crash site tells part of the story; investigators can use it to learn about the final seconds of a flight and rule out mechanical failures. The flight data and cockpit voice recorders are critical, but they don’t always reveal what happened. It almost always takes a tragic combination of factors to bring down an airplane. During a regional commuter hop in New Zealand, the pilots of Eagle Airways Flight 2300 struggle to lower their landing gear. They circle the airport to troubleshoot the issue. Low on fuel, they have no choice but to eventually attempt a wheels-up landing. With emergency crews standing by, their twin-engine turboprop gently touches down, slides along the centre of the runway, and comes to a stop—remarkably with no injuries and minimal damage to the aircraft. With a potential disaster narrowly averted, investigators look into what could have caused the landing gear to fail. They soon track a hydraulic leak to a minor part with a major flaw. When they later test the entire fleet of Beechcraft turboprops, they uncover a systemic issue that’s endangering passengers worldwide. MN 12 (Canada)
