Along the Western edge of the Valley of the Kings, lies one of the last tombs left to be excavated in modern times. This season, American Egyptologist Don Ryan is working against the clock to conduct a forensic examination of the contents of Tomb 49, hoping to find treasures left behind by ancient tomb robbers. His team makes a dramatic discovery - the 3,000-year-old ring of Ramses III, one of Egypts greatest pharaohs - a find that changes the course of Dons investigations and lifts the lid on the astonishing story of ancient state-sanctioned tomb robbery on an industrial scale. Nearby in Deir el Bahari, Archaeologist Antonio Morales and his team are investigating how ancient tomb builders cleverly designed their tombs to try to evade would-be thieves. Outside the tomb of the nobleman Ipi, the team unearth a hidden underground chamber. They also investigate their rare find of 56 mummification jars, intact with Ipis remains - including a mummified human heart. What was left behind by robbers and previous explorers proves to be the greatest treasure of all today, as it throws precious light on the mysteries of ancient mummification rituals. The battle against tomb robbers continues today. In Cairo, Dr Shabaan of the Ministry of Antiquities is working with US Homeland Security on the case of three ancient mummy parts for sale on the black market in New York.
